This morning I had a the most beautiful meeting with a client talking about how she is feeling about her marketing and specifically in relation to her use of SEO, Google Adwords and Facebook.
The client and her partner offer the most incredible service in the Air Conditioning industry and being based in a capital city they naturally find themselves surrounded by many other companies who do the same. This very normal situation means of course that it can become quite competitive to get work and hence keep a business turning.
Unfortunately the pressure a lot of small and medium size businesses are under gets preyed upon by the marketing industry and in particular SEO 'experts' who will convince business owners that they know what they need to get on the first page of google....and they just happen to charge thousands of dollars to do so. Google Adwords is very much the same. A large engine geared towards getting you in front of a possible new customer, but with of course a big spend often needed for sometimes very little result.
This is not a criticism of using Google Adwords if it works for you, but what we talked about this morning was staying true first and foremost, and not being bullied by SEO companies and marketing 'gurus' through fear or lack or needing to be on the first page of anything, but rather looking at ways to share the amazing service they offer and all the warmth that comes with it (literally - pun intended).
And so, we talked about a few things the client could do going forward that felt true for them. To write an article that will support their clients in how to look after and prepare their air con for the coming summer, and to share a few posts on their Facebook page to keep their clients connected with what they are up to.
It's so simple when we market from truth and integrity.
