It's the number one Social Media platform in the world, and second only to google as a used space on the internet. In March 2017, it had just under 1.94 billion active users and it doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.
Facebook has continued to reinvent itself over the years and has gone from what was once considered a social medium to connect with friends and meet new people, to now being used by millions of businesses all looking to increase their brand awareness and potential growth.
The problem with this is that their is huge competition for businesses to get into users newsfeeds and often a business page on Facebook will only reach 5% of its actual followers when posting. This is because Facebook works to algorithms. It watches its users activity, it knows what they like and dislike based on their click responses and it listens to this. Facebook wants its users to keep using, so it looks to make sure it is sending into its users newsfeeds, the type of content it thinks they want to see based on their click behaviour.......make sense?
Secondly, Facebook ranks posts from friends higher than posts from business or entrepreneurial pages that users are following, so already you can see that businesses on Facebook have their work cut out for them. But this doesn't mean giving up. Having a Facebook page for your business is hugely supportive for people to be able to find you, ask questions, and get a feel for what you are all about.
So in saying that, here are our top recommendations for increasing your share-ability on Facebook.
1. Use Facebook Live - Facebook favours its LIVE Video option over most if not all other forms of content. Once you get the hang of it, you can use Facebook live as an opportunity for people to get to know your business more personally - we all love that.
2.Don't post too many external links - As mentioned above, Facebook wants its users to stay on its own platform as much as possible, so posting content too with links back to your own website too often will see your posts get penalised. What we mean by this, is Facebook simply won't send your post into your followers newsfeeds, so basically, you won't get seen.
However, see this as an opportunity to simply share and interact more with your followers. Sharing images that open the doors for communication is just as productive for your business (if not more) then a website link. An example of this type of posting could be a photograph of a customer who just bought your product, or the CEO of the company receiving an award etc. There is so much you can do on Facebook that can support your business connections, without necessarily supplying a link.
3. Use keywords - Facebook does work on SEO guidelines, so use keywords in your posts that are relevant to your industry.
4. Don't over hashtag - Facebook doesn't look apon hashtags the same as Twitter and Instagram do, so if you feel to use them, the rule of thumb would be 2 maybe, 3 max.
5. Share more video - organic video on Facebook ranks higher then standard content such as website or blog links. Dedicate some time each month to be producing video content for your business, and if your not confident doing this, hire a professional to get you started.
And last but not least.....
6. Be Real in your posts - One thing we all look for in our businesses is genuine-ness. Content that is real and honest and communicated in a very natural way is the best kind of content to find, so make sure where you are coming from is very natural and in line with your philosophy.
